What is the difference between 2D, 3D, 4D, and HD Live?

2D Ultrasound is the traditional gray scale image you may be accustomed to seeing during typical diagnostic ultrasound.  These images are black and white and can be quite clear especially earlier in the pregnancy when the baby still lacks substantial body fat.  There are many exciting views of the baby in this dimension such as the profile of your little one’s face or the whole baby. 2D is used for gender determination.

3D Ultrasound is a computer rendered image which allows you to see more depth perception.  3D is particularly useful in seeing those precious little faces peek out at you as well as their little fingers and tiny toes!  An adequate 2D image is necessary to obtain a great 3D image.

4D Ultrasound adds the dimension of time to a 3D image so you can see your baby in motion. This is very exciting and perfect to see your little munchkin wave, open their eyes, suck their fingers and make their silly faces!

HD Live enhances the image with light to perceive exceptional depth and skin tones.  This is the latest state of the art technology only available in facilities with the most up to date equipment.

When is the best time to have an ultrasound done?
  • Gender determination: 14 plus weeks
  • 2D: 14+ – 36 weeks, 2D is used at all gestational ages
  • 3D/4D/HD: 24-36 weeks, best usually 28-34 weeks

There is some flexibility on both ends of the timeline, please inquire.  Many moms will schedule repeat visits to enjoy images from both the 2nd and 3rd trimesters.

Can you tell the sex of my baby?

Yes, in most cases I can provide an accurate indication of the sex of the baby.  Certain factors can affect the ability to accurately determine the gender. If for some reason I can’t see well enough to be absolutely sure, we will reschedule a quick peek return at no cost to you. To ensure accurate success, you should be 14 weeks plus pregnant.

Will I always get a beautiful picture of my baby?

Usually, but not always.  There are limitations out of our control that may inhibit optimum viewing of your little bundle of joy. These include the baby looking toward your spine, lack of amniotic fluid in front of your baby’s face or an anterior placenta.  Maternal body habitus can play a factor as well. Most of the time we can work around these issues.

I will do my very best and use all 35 years of experience to provide you with the most breathtaking images obtainable on your baby. Occasionally, I do come across a particularly stubborn baby, but even then, I usually can capture some fleeting glimpses of peek-a-boo! Rest assured, I promise to make every effort to obtain the best possible images of whatever parts of the baby that can be seen. If the baby is absolutely not in the mood for our shenanigans, we can reschedule at no charge to you.

Is there anything I can do to help get amazing pictures?

Yes! Drink plenty of water and stay well hydrated the five days preceding your appointment. This will help with the amniotic fluid that surrounds your baby and is necessary to see well. A light meal, finished off with a nice piece of sweet fruit 20 minutes before your appointment can also help get your baby jumping.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes, for your convenience you can use the online booking or call.

Can I bring my family and friends?

Yes!

Up to four guests can fit in the room comfortably and accompany the mom.

The good news is you go home with your keepsake flash drive with all the pictures and video clips of the session to share with anyone who can’t attend.

Does this take the place of an ultrasound at my doctor’s office?

NO. You must be currently receiving prenatal care by a physician or health provider for your pregnancy and have already undergone a previous diagnostic medical ultrasound to confirm your due date, viability, number of fetuses, gestational age, and screen for fetal anomalies, as well as any other pregnancy related issues.  Ultrasounds provided by Wee Beginnings, LLC is for keepsake purposes only, and does not replace a diagnostic medical ultrasound prescribed by your health care provider

You will be required to supply a name and number of your health care provider prior to your Wee Beginnings, LLC session.

Are 3D/4D ultrasound sessions covered by my health insurance?

No. Presently, insurance does not cover elective, non-diagnostic ultrasound. This is for keepsake purposes only and does not replace a diagnostic ultrasound prescribed by your health care provider.

Is it safe?

Ultrasounds are used widely throughout the pregnancy. Studies have shown there are no harmful effects on the baby or mothers.

What type of ultrasound equipment is used?

I use state of the art equipment from GE to provide you with the best possible 2D, 3D, and 4D ultrasound imaging. GE is in the forefront of OB sonography technology and Wee Beginnings, LLC offers this technology to you with the most recent innovation of HD Live.
